*Does Brazilian Waxing Cause Discomfort?*
The process of removing hair from the follicle can be uncomfortable to some extent. However, the level of discomfort varies based on an individual's pain threshold. Other factors that can influence discomfort and sensitivity include previous shaving history, menstrual cycle, medication, and fatigue.
*Who Should Avoid Waxing?*
We do not recommend waxing for individuals experiencing the following symptoms:
- Waxing during your period can cause increased tenderness. Hormones can also make the hair more coarse, making it susceptible to breakage instead of being pulled out. It is advisable to avoid waxing within 2 days before or after your period.
- After sunbathing or spray tan/solarium treatment.
- For individuals with very sensitive skin (please consult your doctor). This includes those with skin rashes, sunburns, wounds, or open skin.
- Users of Retin-A, Renova, Differin, or Accutane. These medications can weaken the skin, and tearing may occur when wax is removed. It is recommended to refrain from waxing for three months after completing the course of medication.
*How Long Should the Hair Be Before Waxing?*
For best results, the hair should be approximately 2-10mm or longer.
*Can Waxing Cause Ingrown Hair?*
Ingrown hair may occur on a case-by-case basis. Using ingrown hair serum and triple-action post-depilatory lotion can help prevent and treat ingrown hairs.
